This SDSN Position Paper highlights the insurance industry’s unique capabilities that are essential for addressing today’s interconnected global crises, from climate change to poverty. Despite its economic weight and societal value, insurance remains often absent from major international development frameworks like the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement. The paper calls for greater integration of insurance into these agendas and offers eleven design principles and eighteen actionable recommendations to unlock its full potential, particularly through partnerships, education, innovation, and supportive public policy.
