About Adaptation Community

Adaptation Community is a knowledge-sharing platform dedicated to climate change adaptation. It provides the latest developments and solutions to support informed decision-making across the public and private sectors. These solutions build on the work of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH within the framework of German Development Cooperation, and have been developed in collaboration with implementing partners. They reflect extensive experience with adaptation measures in many developing countries around the world. Thus, Adaptation Community offers a unique blend of expertise and practical insights.

The Topics section provides an in-depth overview of climate adaptation topics, ranging from nature-based solutions to urban adaptation, policy and planning to human mobility in the context of climate change. Each topic page explains in detail how the subject relates to climate change adaptation and links you to the latest knowledge products.

The Solutions & Tools section is a rich repository of all the knowledge products we have published to date, offering a wide range of materials including policy briefs, in-depth studies, training materials, and specialised tools. These resources build on the work of GIZ experts and implementing partners through German Development Cooperation and reflect the latest available knowledge and tools.

More information

Adaptation Community was launched 2013 on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN). It is now being implemented by GIZ on behalf of the BMUKN and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). While these two ministries, responsible for Germany’s climate policies, as well as other ministries and partners contribute their respective expertise to the platform, the BMZ is now responsible for coordination. The Adaptation Community is a platform supporting global climate change adaptation efforts. It serves as a knowledge hub for practitioners, experts and policymakers from around the world. At its core, the platform addresses the complex challenges associated with climate change by providing practical, innovative solutions and methodologies across the adaptation cycle, from risk analyses to monitoring and evaluation.

In 2025, the Adaptation Community launched its LinkedIn page to bring together the climate adaptation expert community. Latest insights, updates on events and resources from the website are shared. Feel free to follow and stay up to date!

The Adaptation Community was launched in 2013 on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN). The website and LinkedIn page is now being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the BMUKN and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The content of the Adaptation Community consists of nearly 700 publications, 30 trainings, 50 online sessions and many tools.

It helps companies analyse climate change risks and opportunities and generate strong adaptation strategies.
  • The Climate Finance Access Platform brings key information together in one place, providing a structured overview of climate finance, access modalities, and practical resources to support navigation of available funding opportunities.
  • weADAPT is a dynamic, collaborative space for knowledge exchange on climate change adaptation issues. It allows practitioners, researchers, students, planners and decision-makers at all levels to discover high-quality information, contribute their knowledge and connect with one another.
