Building Synergies Between Biodiversity and Climate: Insights from countries on NBSAP and NDC planning and implementation

The new global report titled “Building Synergies Between Biodiversity and Climate – Insights from countries on NBSAP and NDC planning and implementation” published by GIZ as part of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, FAKT and IISD, highlights synergies between national biodiversity strategies (NBSAPs) and climate contributions (NDCs). The report was produced on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and supported by the European Union through the Euroclima programme. The analysis is based on extensive literature reviews and interviews conducted in ten partner countries across Latin America (Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Peru), Africa (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar, Namibia), and Asia (Indonesia, Laos), and identifies concrete recommendations across five key areas of action: institutional coordination, participatory processes, sectoral implementation, financing, and joint monitoring and reporting.

The report provides practical approaches to promoting synergies between climate and biodiversity policyboth at the political level (Rio Conventions) and in on-the-ground implementation. The report and summary are available in English, French, and Spanish. Some of the individual case studies are also available.
