Global Programme Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (HMCCC) Pacific Component

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) highlights in its report from 2022 that climate-related extreme weather and sea level rise are driving displacement, disproportionately affecting Small Island States (SIS) such as the Pacific Islands. The Global Programme “Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change” addressed these issues by supporting national governments of Pacific Island States to manage climate-induced migration. For example, the programme supported Fiji with the development of “Planned Relocation Guidelines” and the operationalisation of its Trust Fund.
