The Paris Agreement called on all Parties to ‘formulate and communicate long-term low greenhouse gas emission development strategies (LT-LEDS)’, which typically extend out to the year 2050. Moreover, the Parties agreed a global goal for adaptation and this raises the question of how to integrate adaptation goals into LT-LEDS and how to assure that they are climate resilient.
This research review investigates and stimulates discussion on the technical and political economy issues with long-term mitigation and adaptation planning. It looks at the potential linkages between mitigation and adaptation in national and sector policy and planning and identifies priority areas for integration. Doing a review of LT-LEDS and National Adaptation Plans the authors showcase barriers and entry points for integration. It summarizes the findings and sets out some initial recommendations and future priorities.
