Evidence of EbA effectiveness: Learning brief

Experiences from practitioners on how to generate evidence of Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) by applying field-proven methods, tools and approaches and on how to use existing evidence effectively. This learning brief is a result of a learning and dialogue workshop, including three technical sessions, held within the 2nd international EbA Community of Practice Workshop that was conducted between 21 and 24 August 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Valuing the Benefits, Costs and Impacts of Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Measures

This sourcebook helps to assist adaptation planners in building awareness, knowledge and capacity for valuing the costs, benefits and impacts of Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) measures in comparison (and combination) with grey measures. It combines information on valuation theory and methods with 40 real-world examples, as well as, practical steps for commissioning, designing and implementing EbA valuation studies.
Discussion series: Climate risk assessments
1st online session: Climate risk assessment in an adaptation policy context, 2nd online session: Climate risk assessment for Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA).
Strategic Mainstreaming of Ecosystem-based Adaptation in Vietnam: Vulnerability Assessment for Ecosystem-based Adaptation – Overall Approach: Vulnerability Assessment for Socio-Ecological Systems

The GIZ project “Strategic Mainstreaming of EbA in Vietnam” is working to promote EbA approaches in Climate Change Adaptation planning across government policy and planning systems. Institutional considerations are thus important. While much of CCA policy is produced at the national level, practical planning for CCA is primarily the responsibility of the Provincial Peoples’ Committees. Thus, as part of its portfolio of activities the project has selected two provinces – Quang Binh and Ha Tinh to demonstrate EbA vulnerability assessments and identify EbA interventions.

Making Ecosystem-based Adaptation Effective – A Framework for Defining Qualification Criteria and Quality Standards (poster)

This poster is illustrating the main features of the Technical Paper, “Making Ecosystem-based Adaptation Effective – A Framework for Defining Qualification Criteria and Quality Standards” provides a practical assessment framework for designing, implementing and monitoring EbA measures by proposing a set of 3 elements, 5 qualification criteria and 20 quality standards and example indicators.

Good Practices on Planning, Implementing and Monitoring & Evaluating Ecosystem-based Adaptation to climate change – A summary of GIZ project examples based on a submission to the UNFCCC SBSTTA Nairobi Work Programme

Under the UNFCCC NWP synthesis report on “adaptation addressing ecosystems”, GIZ compiled a selection of 7 EbA good practices based on the EbA Solutions portal under PANORAMA and following the Solution-ing approach.
Making Ecosystem-based Adaptation Effective – A Framework for Defining Qualification Criteria and Quality Standards (technical paper)

The paper was jointly developed by GIZ, IUCN and IIED together with active support from Friends of EbA (FEBA) members and the EbA Community of Practice.
