Planned relocation in Fiji can profoundly affect communities’ identities, traditions and connections to land. The HMCCC Programme supported the development of Standard Operating Procedures and trainings for government officials to make future relocations more structured, participatory and culturally sensitive. By reflecting on shortcomings in earlier cases, officials gained a deeper understanding of why community involvement and dignity are essential throughout the process.
