Science-Based Planning for Local Climate Adaptation Action: Insights from Sub-National Plans

The Indo-German project CAFRI II, commissioned by Germany’s BMZ and jointly implemented by GIZ India along with Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India focuses on climate risk-informed adaptation planning to address key vulnerabilities and strengthen farmer capacities, especially among women. Under this project, GIZ India collaborated with the Centre of Excellence on Disaster Mitigation and Management (CoEDMM) at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, to develop the Climate-Risk Informed Adaptation Action Assessment (CRIAAA) framework for evaluating the evidence-based approach of sub-national climate plans.

This brochure presents insights from pilot applications in Bundelkhand (Uttar Pradesh) and Shivalik (Himachal Pradesh), offering recommendations to enhance climate risk assessments at the agroclimatic zone level and strengthen local adaptation strategies for effective implementation of plans.
