How can cities turn local climate and migration data into timely, targeted action? In Mzuzu, Malawi, rapid urbanisation and rural-to-urban migration are increasing pressure on services, while floods and dry spells affect both the city and surrounding districts. Community monitors in three wards collect monthly data on rainfall, flood hotspots, new arrivals, shelter conditions and service gaps, helping fill gaps in delayed and fragmented information. The case study shows how community-generated, inclusive data can inform early warning, municipal planning and climate mobility responses.
