Thematic Paper 1: Linkages and Synergies Between International Instruments on Biodiversity and Climate Change

Thematic Paper 1 explores how climate and biodiversity policies can work better together. Despite growing scientific evidence that climate change and biodiversity loss are deeply interconnected, governance efforts often remain fragmented. The paper examines existing legal and policy mechanisms that can foster synergies between the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and highlights recent advances in bringing biodiversity into climate policy, including through nature-based solutions (NbS).
